ChatGPT
Connect ChatGPT to MemPalace Cloud in three steps: enable Developer Mode, add the MCP connector, then paste the memory instructions.
ChatGPT requires a Teams, Pro, or Enterprise plan for MCP support. Free and Plus plans do not include Developer Mode. Developer Mode is only available on Web and Desktop — not the mobile app.
Prerequisites
- A MemPalace Cloud account (free tier works)
- A ChatGPT Teams, Pro, or Enterprise plan
Installation
Step 1: Enable Developer Mode
Open ChatGPT Settings → Apps → Developer Mode and toggle it on.
If you are on a Teams plan and don't see this option, ask your workspace admin to enable it under Workspace Settings → Permissions & Roles.
Step 2: Add the MCP connector
Click Settings → Connectors → Create and enter:
- Name: MemPalace Cloud
- Description: Persistent memory — search, store, and recall facts, decisions, and context across sessions
- Connector URL:
https://api.mempalace.cloud/mcp
Click Save. A browser window opens for OAuth login — sign in with your MemPalace Cloud account. Once connected, ChatGPT shows the available tools (mempalace_search, mempalace_add_drawer, etc.).
Step 3: Paste the memory instructions
The full instruction block is hosted at:
https://mempalace.cloud/skill-packs/chatgpt-instructions.md
Copy its content and paste it into ChatGPT Custom Instructions.
The hosted block is kept in sync with the plugin (currently v1.3.0) and includes:
- Discovery First — ChatGPT reads the palace structure before writing
- Save Decision Flow — a three-question flow to prevent flat dumps
- Anti-patterns — no silent creation, no generic dumps
Verification
Open a new ChatGPT conversation and ask:
"What do you know about my preferences?"
ChatGPT should call mempalace_list_wings first (discovery), then mempalace_search before answering — you'll see the tool invocation in the chat.
Updates
When the skill pack version bumps (e.g., v1.3.0 → v1.4.0), re-copy the hosted block into your Custom Instructions to stay current. There is no automatic update path for pasted instructions.
Troubleshooting
Developer Mode option not visible You need a Teams, Pro, or Enterprise plan. On Teams, the workspace admin must enable it first. Developer Mode is not available on the mobile app.
Connector shows an error
Verify the URL is correct: https://api.mempalace.cloud/mcp. Try https://api.mempalace.cloud/healthz in your browser — it should return {"status":"ok"}.
